Our Credential STANDARD
Certified Ganjier
Every consultant on The Dab Standard platform is a Certified Ganjier — the industry’s equivalent of the wine world’s Master Sommelier. The credential is earned through a three-stage program: 40+ hours of online coursework taught by a council of 18 experts covering history, botany, genetics, cultivation, science, and quality assessment; followed by two days of hands-on, in-person sensory training in Humboldt County, California, where candidates develop their palate evaluating real products under expert supervision.
The Certification Exam
To become certified, the candidate must pass a three-part certification exam covering plant knowledge, customer service, and sensory & assessment. Fewer than 300 people in the world have earned the Certified Ganjier title.

CUSTOMER INTERACTION
Service Exam
A live, proctored role-play scenario in which the candidate must demonstrate the Ganjier’s proprietary Customer Interaction Protocol™. An exam administrator plays the role of a consumer, and the candidate must correctly identify that person’s goals, needs, and desired outcomes — then guide them to the appropriate products and experiences with clarity and confidence.

The Service Exam is the reason a Dab Standard session feels like a conversation, not a lecture. Your consultant has been tested specifically on their ability to listen to a consumer’s goals and translate expertise into guidance that actually fits that person — not a generic answer pulled from a script.
SENSORY & ASSESSMENT
Blind Assessment Exam
The candidate receives an unidentified plant sample — selected and pre-assessed by Ganjier instructors — and must evaluate it blind using the Systematic Assessment Protocol™. No label, no strain name, no price.
Why it matters for you
When your consultant evaluates a concentrate or tells you that a dispensary’s product is or isn’t worth the premium price, that assessment is grounded in a calibrated, tested palate — not preference. They have been evaluated blind against an objective standard. That is a meaningfully different kind of credibility.

Matthew Shevach, Founder
I’ve spent the last eight years working at the intersection of the plant, technology, and consumer experience — as a Certified Ganjier, an educator, a cultivator, a competition judge, and a product leader. I’m also on the startup team at Budist, the first dedicated social review platform for products and brands.
Previously, I spent over two decades in product, marketing, and go-to-market strategy launching first-to-market innovative products and services. I placed one of the first ads on the internet in 1994. I’ve been chasing the next meaningful thing ever since.
The plant is that thing. And concentrates, specifically, are where I spend most of my attention — assessing them, judging them at competitions like the California State Fair and The MJBowl, and helping people understand how to get the most out of them.
The Dab Standard exists because the gap I kept seeing in the market was personal. Consumers were intimidated by the torches, the tech, or the culture surrounding concentrates, or they were spending real money on equipment but lacked the expert guidance to actually enjoy it. That’s a solvable problem. This is how I’m solving it.
