Dabbing 101 — Everything You Need to Know
New to concentrates? This is the no-nonsense guide to what dabbing is, how it works, and what you actually need to get started. Read this before your first session and you’ll walk in prepared.
What is dabbing?
Dabbing is the process of vaporizing plant concentrates — also called extracts — using a heated surface. Unlike flower, concentrates are highly potent refined forms of the plant: live rosin, live resin, wax, shatter, distillate, badder, diamonds, sauce, and more.
The result is a cleaner, more intense, and often more flavorful experience than smoking or vaping flower. You may already be familiar with concentrates in another format; the oil that is inside of vape pens.
Concentrates are consumed by touching a small amount — a “dab” — to a hot surface (a banger, a coil, or an atomizer) and inhaling the resulting vapor. The equipment used to do this is called a dab rig.
The Modern Dabbing Landscape
Dabbing has come a long way. While it used to require torches and complicated setups, today’s technology makes it simple, clean, and accessible to everyone.

The main types of dab setups
There are four main ways to dab. They range from the simplest (press a button) to the most hands-on (torch technique) — with a torch-free glass option in the middle that most beginners don’t know about.

What is an e-nail and how does it work?
The e-nail is the option most people haven’t heard of — and it’s the one that solves torch anxiety for anyone who wants to use a glass rig.
An e-nail (electronic nail) is a temperature controller unit that powers a heating coil. The coil clamps onto or wraps around your quartz banger and heats it electronically. You plug the controller into a wall outlet, set your target temperature — typically 350°F–450°F — and it heats up to that temperature in about 60–90 seconds and holds it there indefinitely. Your banger is always at the right temperature when you want to dab.
The actual dabbing experience is identical to using a torch-heated setup: load your concentrate into the banger, place your carb cap, inhale, clean with a Q-tip. The only difference is that an electronic coil did the heating instead of a flame. You get the full glass rig experience — quality quartz, water filtration, the ritual of manual loading and capping — without ever picking up a torch.

Is dabbing right for me?
